How to Clean Your Hunter Douglas Window Coverings

Ready to start your spring cleaning? Don’t forget your window coverings! You may feel unsure of the best way to clean your Hunter Douglas blinds or shades due to their seemingly fragile structure. Lucky for you, all Hunter Douglas products are made for a lifetime of wear-resistant trouble-free performance, with many shade fabrics specially-treated to repel dust and dirt. Regular light cleaning of your blinds, shades, and shutters will help ensure their longevity, but sometimes a deeper cleaning may be required. As the Hunter Douglas product line is quite vast and varying in materials, be sure to check the Hunter Douglas Cleaning Brochure before you tackle any deeper cleaning to avoid accidental damage.

Here are some basic tips to help you clean your Hunter Douglas window treatments:

  1.  Dusting: Regular light dusting is recommended to maintain a like-new appearance for most blinds, shades, shadings, sheers, shutters, and window panels.
  2.  Vacuuming: For more dust removal power, use a brush attachment on your regular or hand-held vacuum and gently clean your blinds or shades. Most coverings can be vacuumed using a vertical stroke.
  3.  Compressed air or hair dryer (non-heat setting): Use cool air to blow dust off selected coverings. Cool air can also be used to blow bugs or small pests that may get stuck in certain hollow shade features as well.
